Brokenness Before God
Day 2: Brokenness Before God
Theme Scripture
“For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.’”
— Isaiah 57:15 (NKJV)
Exposition
Brokenness is at the very heart of revival. God does not revive the proud, the self-sufficient, or the unrepentant. Instead, He looks for those who are humble, contrite, and aware of their deep need for Him. Pride is one of the greatest enemies of revival because it resists the Spirit of God. But when we come to Him in brokenness—acknowledging our sins, weaknesses, and failures—His grace floods in to restore and revive.
King David understood this truth when he declared, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise” (Psalm 51:17). Brokenness is not about self-pity; it is about surrender. It is when we lay our pride, ambitions, and self-will at the feet of Jesus and cry, “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
Revival always begins with repentance and humility. Until we are broken, we cannot be filled. Until we are emptied of self, we cannot overflow with God’s Spirit. True brokenness prepares the vessel for fresh oil.
