Episode 28 – The Cold Fire of the West

When Comfort Becomes the Enemy of Revival

The invitation came from an unexpected place — a large ministry in London that had heard of David’s revival across Africa. They wrote, “We believe the Lord is calling you to ignite the hearts of believers here.”

David prayed for days before accepting. He knew this journey would be different. Africa had been a furnace of faith, but the West — it was a land of quiet lights and cold altars.

When he arrived, the difference was startling. The churches were grand but half-filled. The people were kind, but distant. Worship was polished, but the air felt heavy with distraction. He noticed something deeper — they had everything, yet lacked hunger.

During his first meeting, he stood before a congregation that looked at him curiously — waiting to be inspired, but not desperate. He opened his Bible and said quietly,

“You have built beautiful altars, but no fire burns on them. You have prayers written, but not wept. You have songs sung, but not believed.”

The silence that followed was uncomfortable. Some crossed their arms. Others lowered their heads. But David wasn’t trying to impress them — he was burdened.

As he prayed, tears began to fall — his, not theirs. “Lord,” he whispered, “show them You’re still near.”

Suddenly, a woman in the third row began to cry out. “My son—he’s in the hospital—he’s dying!”

David paused mid-sermon. “Let’s pray for him.”

The church grew still. He raised his hands and simply said, “Jesus.”

At that very hour, miles away, the boy’s heartbeat stabilized. The doctors would later testify they couldn’t explain it.

News spread quickly, but David wasn’t satisfied with wonder — he longed for awakening.

In the following weeks, the cold churches grew warmer. People began showing up early to pray. The young started evangelizing on the streets. Those who once worshiped from memory began worshiping from hunger.

One evening, as David left the church, a man stopped him and said, “You didn’t just bring fire — you reminded us we still have oil.”

That night, back in his room, David knelt by the window overlooking the glowing city. “Lord,” he said softly, “this world doesn’t need a new message — it needs a living flame.”

And deep within, the voice that had guided him since the ashes whispered once more:
“Then burn, my son. Even among the cold.”

He wept — not from sorrow, but from calling.
