The Fear of the Lord
Day 19: The Fear of the Lord
Theme Scripture
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
— Proverbs 9:10 (KJV)
Exposition
Every true revival is marked by a fresh reverence for God. When the Holy Spirit moves, hearts tremble—not in terror, but in holy awe. The fear of the Lord brings purity, obedience, and humility. It turns the heart away from sin and back to the path of righteousness.
Many today want the fire of revival without the fear of the Lord. But God will not pour His Spirit on a people who trivialize His holiness. The early Church walked in this divine fear, and the result was power, purity, and explosive growth (Acts 5:11–14).
The fear of the Lord is not a natural fear that drives us away from God, but a spiritual reverence that draws us nearer with humility and obedience. It is the atmosphere where revival thrives. When we lose the fear of the Lord, sin becomes casual, worship becomes entertainment, and truth becomes optional. But when the fear of the Lord returns, holiness becomes our delight and obedience our joy.
Revival restores the majesty of God in the hearts of His people. When the Church trembles before His holiness, the world will tremble before His power.
