Be Still and Know
Sincere Milk Devotional – July 14
Theme: Be Still and Know
Scripture: Psalms 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (NKJV)
Reflection
The world is constantly demanding our attention. Notifications compete for our focus, responsibilities fill our schedules, and the pressure to keep moving can leave our souls exhausted. In the midst of all the noise, God's invitation is surprisingly simple: "Be still."
Stillness is not inactivity; it is surrender. It is choosing to quiet our anxious hearts so we can recognize that God is still on His throne. It is the posture of a soul that trusts God's sovereignty more than its own ability to control every circumstance.
When the psalmist wrote these words, God's people were surrounded by turmoil. Nations were in conflict, kingdoms were shaking, and uncertainty filled the air. Yet God reminded them that His rule remained unshaken. The storms around them did not diminish His power over them.
How often do we mistake busyness for fruitfulness? We rush from one task to another, believing that everything depends on us. Yet some of the greatest victories in the Christian life are won in the quiet place—where we listen more than we speak, worship more than we worry, and trust more than we strive.
Jesus Himself modeled this rhythm. Though surrounded by crowds and endless demands, He frequently withdrew to solitary places to pray. If the Son of God valued stillness before the Father, how much more do we need it?
Today, God is not merely asking you to slow down; He is inviting you to remember who He is. He is your Refuge, your Provider, your Shepherd, and your Peace. Whatever is beyond your control is never beyond His.
Take a moment today to be still—not because every problem has disappeared, but because your God remains faithful.
Application
- Spend at least ten uninterrupted minutes in silence before God today.
- Read a portion of Scripture slowly, allowing it to speak to your heart.
- Release one burden you have been trying to carry alone.
- Choose worship over worry whenever anxious thoughts arise.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, in a world filled with distractions, teach me to be still before You. Quiet my anxious thoughts and help me to rest in the certainty of Your love and power. Remind me that You are in control even when life feels uncertain. May my heart find peace in Your presence and strength in Your promises. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Thought for the Day: Stillness is not the absence of activity; it is the presence of trust.
Midnight Reflections – July 14
The Quiet Place
Some of God's deepest work is done in silence.
Not every answer comes through dramatic miracles. Sometimes God whispers rather than shouts. He speaks in the stillness that we so often avoid.
Silence can feel uncomfortable because it leaves us alone with our thoughts. Yet it is often there that God gently exposes our fears, heals our wounds, and reminds us of His unchanging presence.
The greatest enemy of spiritual depth is not always sin; sometimes it is constant distraction.
Tonight, before you fall asleep, resist the urge to fill every quiet moment. Turn off the noise for a while. Sit in God's presence without rushing to ask for anything. Simply acknowledge that He is God and that you are safely held in His hands.
You may discover that peace is not found in having all the answers, but in resting with the One who does.
As the day comes to an end, remember that God is already watching over tomorrow. You do not have to stay awake worrying about what He has promised to carry.
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for Your abiding presence. As I end this day, quiet every anxious thought within me. Help me to rest in Your love, trust in Your wisdom, and sleep in the assurance that You are working even while I rest. Let tomorrow find me refreshed in body, mind, and spirit, ready to walk with You again. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Closing Thought: When you rest in God's presence, you discover that His peace is greater than your deepest worries.
