Know Your Enemy

Know Your Enemy

Scripture:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)

Reflection:
Victory in spiritual warfare begins with clarity about your opponent. The first step to fighting right, is to know who you're fighting with.  Who is the enemy.  When one is ignorant of the opposing enemy, fighting becomes difficult. You can only fight a known adversary, otherwise, defeat is inevitable. It is wise to first identify and know your enemy's identity,  strategy, potentials, possibly weapons,  and how to fight.

Satan is not a myth or mere symbol—he is a real adversary whose aim is to distract, deceive, steal and destroy. He uses subtle lies, temptations, fear, and discouragement to wear down believers. He hides, crafty and uses  deception to lure and trap humanity and mostly uses his victims against themselves and other people.

But praise God, his power is limited, and we are not ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11). You don’t need to fear him—you just need to remain alert, anchored in Christ, and equipped with God’s truth. The word of God is a light and so reveals the hidden agenda of darkness to God's children and also ways to secure victory are embedded in the Word.

Recognizing the enemy helps you resist him. Knowing his tactics equips you to stand firm. The Word of God not only reveals his schemes but also empowers us with strategies to overcome him. Keep the Word alive in you at all times.

Further Scripture Readings:

  • 2 Corinthians 10:3–5
  • James 4:7
  • Luke 10:19
  • Ephesians 6:11

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for revealing the truth about the enemy. I choose to stand watchful and alert. Strengthen me with discernment, and help me walk in the authority of Christ, knowing that no weapon formed against me shall prosper.
