When Love Sings His Praise –

Episode 4: The Breaking Point

Every relationship faces pressure. But ours felt like being pressed between the millstones of heaven’s calling and the world’s resistance.

By now, Deborah and I had grown closer—not by casual talk or strolls under the moonlight, but by fasting, praying, and singing until our voices cracked. We both sensed that what God had joined was bigger than romance. It was ministry. But the opposition was getting fierce.

🔹 The Trap at the Banquet

One evening, Deborah’s father, Chief Williams, invited her to a grand family dinner at their mansion. She dreaded it but obeyed. When she arrived, she realized it wasn’t just a family gathering—it was an ambush.

Several prominent men were seated, including the son of a senator who had been eyeing her for years. He was polished, smooth-talking, and carried himself like royalty.

“Deborah,” her father said between bites of pepper soup, “this is Emmanuel. He’s a fine young man, already managing one of his father’s companies. I would be honored if you considered a future with him.”

Her heart pounded. She forced a polite smile but felt a lump in her throat.
“Father, I respect you deeply,” she said softly, “but my future is not in the hands of wealth or politics. My life belongs to Christ.”

The table went silent. Emmanuel chuckled mockingly.
“Debbie, don’t waste your beauty and destiny on a pauper who has nothing to offer. Think about the future—your children, your legacy. Love won’t pay bills.”

She excused herself, fighting tears. In the restroom, she prayed under her breath:
“Lord, I feel like I’m breaking. Strengthen me. Remind me why You called me.”

🔹 David’s Own Test

Meanwhile, across town, I was enduring my own trial. My mother had fallen sick again, her blood pressure dangerously high. The small money I earned from playing guitar at fellowships wasn’t enough for her treatment.

That night, as I left the hospital, I found a neatly sealed envelope slipped under my door. Inside was ₦200,000—far more than I had ever held at once. The note read: “David, choose wisely. Life can be easier if you stop chasing dreams with Deborah. There are better doors waiting for you.”

My knees weakened. Was this God’s provision or the devil’s snare? I dropped the envelope on the bed and fell on my face crying:
“Jehovah Jireh, You are my source. If this is not from You, take it away. I will not sell my calling for money.”

🔹 A Midnight Encounter

That very night, Deborah called me in tears.
“David, they want to marry me off. I can’t bear this pressure. Sometimes I wonder… maybe we’re only deceiving ourselves.”

Her words cut me deeply. But suddenly, I felt a boldness rise within me.
“Deborah,” I said firmly, “if this is truly God’s assignment, we cannot give up. Remember Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego? They stood before the fire and declared, ‘Even if He does not deliver us, we will not bow.’ We must not bow—to family, to money, or to fear. We will wait on God’s vindication.”

There was silence on the other end of the line. Then, slowly, Deborah whispered:
“David… your faith gives me faith. Let’s hold on. Together.”

Two hearts, bruised but unbroken. Two souls, clinging not just to each other but to the Cross.

The breaking point had come—but by grace, we had not shattered.

📖 Scripture to Reflect On:
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

🙏 Prayer:
“Lord, in my moments of breaking, be my strength. Help me not to yield to pressure, money, or fear, but to stand firm in Your will. Remind me that Your grace is always enough.”
