Letters from Heaven

Episode 12 – The God Who Heals

The morning of the surgery dawned cold. David barely slept, his heart pounding with every tick of the clock. Funke paced the corridor, her hands clasped tightly together, while Mama was wheeled into the theatre.

The hours that followed felt like years. Every time a nurse walked past, David’s stomach twisted. He prayed, he wept, he whispered scripture under his breath.

“Lord, You promised. You said she will live and not die. Fulfill Your word.”

At one point, his legs gave way, and he slumped against the wall, staring at the floor. But then, almost like a whisper across his soul, he felt it again—the same presence he’d sensed since the letter in the rain. A peace washed over him, unexplainable, unshakable.

Three hours later, the theatre doors swung open. The surgeon walked out, peeling off his gloves. His face was unreadable. David braced himself.

“The surgery was a success,” the doctor finally said, his tone almost stunned. “Your mother’s heart is stronger than I expected. She’s already responding well.”

David’s legs buckled again, but this time he fell to his knees—not in despair, but in worship. Tears flooded his eyes as he lifted his hands right there in the hospital corridor.
“Thank You, Jesus. Thank You for not letting me drown.”

Funke stood frozen, her lips trembling. Slowly, she broke down in tears too—not of anger this time, but of awe. She whispered, “Brother… your God… He really came through.”

When they finally saw Mama, she was weak but smiling, her eyes glowing with life. She reached for David’s hand and whispered, “Didn’t I tell you? The God of Abraham never fails.”

That night, as David walked home under a sky full of stars, he clutched the torn page from Isaiah once more. But this time, it was no longer a fragile hope—it was a testimony carved into his soul.

The waters had risen, the fire had burned hot, the night had been silent—but God had been faithful through it all.

And David knew this was not just his mother’s story. It was his story. A story he would carry for the rest of his life:

The God who sees. The God who provides. The God who heals.
