Episode 13 – The Voice in the Fire
The days after Mama’s recovery were filled with joy. Neighbors came to visit, singing praises and shaking their heads in amazement. “It is the Lord’s doing,” Mama kept repeating, her frail hands lifted.
But David couldn’t shake a strange restlessness. The miracle had changed him. Each night, when the house grew quiet, he would sit by the window with the torn page from Isaiah. The words that once comforted him now stirred something deeper:
“When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned.”
He realized that God hadn’t just saved Mama—He was calling him.
One night, David dreamed he was standing in the waiting room of a vast hall. The air shimmered with light, and through the windows he saw multitudes of people, weary and searching. Some waited patiently; others abandoned their place in despair. A voice whispered:
“Will you guide them, as I guided you?”
He woke drenched in sweat, trembling. Was this a dream—or a summons?
The next week, David received an unexpected letter. Not from heaven this time, but from the local youth fellowship. They had heard about the miracle and wanted him to share his testimony. Fear gripped him. He had never spoken before a crowd. But the memory of that voice lingered:
“Will you guide them?”
On the appointed day, David stood before the small congregation, hands shaking. He looked at their faces—young men weighed down by poverty, young women carrying burdens of silence, children with searching eyes. And then, as if carried on a wind not his own, he began to speak.
He told them of the storm, the silence, the near-falls, the small shocks, and the final miracle. As he spoke, the room grew still. Tears fell. Hearts softened.
When he finished, the pastor walked up and simply said, “God has put His word in your mouth.”
From that night, David knew the journey was no longer about his pain alone. It was about the people still drowning in their storms, still waiting for their miracles.
The miracle was only the beginning. The calling had begun.
