Letters from Heaven
Episode 14 – Voices Against the Voice
The first testimony meeting had lit a spark in David’s heart, but sparks attract wind. The very next week, opposition came.
It began subtly—snickers among old friends who said, “So David has turned preacher now?” Then came sharper words from neighbors:
“People always exaggerate miracles to look holy.”
“Didn’t he once run around prophets looking for luck? Now he claims God called him?”
The hardest blow came from his workplace. During lunch break, a colleague mocked him openly:
“David, I hear you’re the new Jeremiah of our street. Tell us—when will the heavens write you another letter?”
Laughter erupted. David’s throat tightened, but deep inside, the echo of Jeremiah rang:
“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’… for you shall go to all to whom I send you.”
That night, David wrestled. Alone, he cried, “Lord, why would You call me if men only mock me? I’m not strong. I’m not eloquent. I’m just… David.”
Silence. Then, in the quiet, he felt it—the same presence that held him when Mama was dying, the same hand that pulled him from despair. A whisper:
“Did they not mock My Son too? Do not fear their laughter. The fire will prove the voice.”
The next week, another invitation came. A youth group in a nearby church had heard of his story and wanted him to speak. David hesitated, but obeyed. When he stood to testify, the resistance followed him—whispers at the back, folded arms, doubtful eyes.
But halfway through, something shifted. A young woman burst into tears, crying out, “That’s my life! That’s exactly my struggle!” She ran forward for prayer. The room broke into weeping, repentance, and worship.
Even the doubters fell silent.
David walked home trembling. He now understood: the opposition was not against him, but against the One who had called him. And each time he obeyed, the fire of the calling burned brighter.
