Episode 17 – After the Fire

The revival night ended in tears, joy, and salvation. For days afterward, the city buzzed with talk of the young man who spoke like he had walked through flames. Everywhere David went, people stopped him:

“Brother David, pray for me.”
“Your words touched me.”
“You must come to our town; we need the same fire!”

David felt both exhilarated and overwhelmed. He was no longer invisible—the boy once mocked for running after prophets was now treated as if he were one. Some even tried to touch his clothes as though he carried a special power.

At first, he smiled. But soon, unease grew in his chest. Was this how it began—this slippery slope where men exalt the vessel instead of the God who fills it?

One evening, Pastor Emmanuel visited him again.
“David,” he said gently, “you are stepping into a new season. Miracles draw crowds, but the Word sustains them. You must go deeper in prayer and Scripture, or the fire will consume you instead of guiding you.”

David nodded, but he didn’t fully grasp it until the following week. A wealthy businessman, impressed by his rising influence, offered him money to “partner” in ministry.
“Think of it, David,” the man urged. “With my support, you can be on television, print books, build a following. You’ll be a star!”

For a moment, David’s heart leapt. The thought of escaping poverty, of Mama never lacking again, was tempting. But in that same breath, he felt a warning—like a chill wind across his spirit.

That night, he dreamt again of the waiting hall. This time, the windows were filled with dazzling lights—golden, shimmering, enticing. Yet as he moved closer, he saw that behind the glitter was emptiness, a void without life.

The voice whispered,
“Not every door is mine. Not every light is true.”

David woke with a pounding heart. The message was clear: the real test had just begun.

The fire had fallen—but now, could he carry it without being consumed by pride, money, or man’s applause?
