Episode 23 – The Shadows Among the Light

When Revival Attracts Opposition

The crowd had grown beyond the small village. From neighboring towns they came — limping, weeping, rejoicing. Crutches lay abandoned beside the altar. A hush of holy fear filled the place every time David prayed.

But in another corner of the city, murmurs began.
“Who ordained him?”
“Where did he get this power?”
“Why are our people leaving to follow this… farmer preacher?”

The words grew into whispers, and the whispers into schemes. Some leaders called him reckless; others, dangerous.

David didn’t hear much of it — at least not yet. His focus was still on what God was doing. But Mama, ever discerning, sensed a storm brewing.
“My son,” she said one night, “when light shines bright, shadows will always gather. But don’t fight the shadows — stay near the Source.”

He nodded, though her words lingered uneasily.

Days later, an official letter arrived:

“By order of the District Church Council, all unauthorized gatherings are to cease immediately.”

David froze. The very revival God had birthed was now labeled rebellion.

He sat under the mango tree, the letter trembling in his hand. For the first time since the fire, doubt clawed at his heart again. “Lord,” he whispered, “did I run ahead of You?”

That night, he dreamt of Jesus walking on water — but this time, the waves were made of crowds. Each step Jesus took stirred either worship or accusation. When David tried to follow, he began to sink — until he stopped looking at the crowd and fixed his gaze on Jesus.

When he woke, tears streamed down his face. He understood.

That morning, he gathered the people and said, “We will not fight flesh and blood. If they shut down the gatherings, we will carry the fire into homes. Revival doesn’t belong to walls; it belongs to hearts.”

So it happened — the movement spread like wind. Homes became prayer cells, families turned altars, and the officials who tried to silence him soon found themselves surrounded by revival that couldn’t be stopped.

Mama smiled when she saw it. “The church tried to close a window,” she said softly, “but God opened every door.”

Still, in the distance, one man watched — a powerful cleric whose pride had been wounded. His lips curled into a smirk. “Let’s see how long your fire burns, boy.”

The next wave wasn’t from outside. It was from within.
