Episode 7 – When the Door Cracks Open

Morning came heavy, but David rose anyway. His eyes were swollen from a night of tears, his body weary, yet a quiet resolve steadied him. He would go back to the hospital. He would sit by Mama’s bed. He would pray—even if the heavens stayed silent.

As he reached the ward, he found his sister pacing. Her eyes flashed with frustration.
“They want the deposit today,” Funke said sharply. “If we don’t pay, they will not schedule the surgery. Brother David, what are we going to do?”

He had no answer. Only a whisper in his heart: Wait. Trust.

While Funke stormed off to make more calls, David sat beside Mama. Her face was pale, but her hand weakly squeezed his. She murmured, “The God of Abraham will provide. Don’t let go.”

David bowed his head, tears wetting her fingers.

It was then a nurse walked in, holding a clipboard. She looked around, puzzled. “Who is David Adeyemi?”

David raised his hand, startled.

She smiled faintly. “Someone has already paid part of your mother’s bill. Not the full amount, but enough to begin initial preparations.”

His heart skipped. “Who?”

The nurse shook her head. “No name left behind. Just cash and a note that said, ‘For Mama Adeyemi—because God sees.’

For a moment, David sat frozen. Could it be Kunle, changing his mind? A church member? A stranger? He had no clue. But the words of the note gripped him: Because God sees.

Tears streamed down his face. He fell to his knees right there in the hospital corridor. “Lord… You’re here. You really are here.”

That evening, as he walked home, the rain had stopped. The sky opened in hues of gold and crimson, painting a picture more beautiful than any artist could design. For the first time in months, David didn’t feel swallowed by the darkness.

He still didn’t have the full amount. His mother still needed surgery. His problems hadn’t vanished. But the door had cracked open, just enough for light to spill through.

And in that light, his faith deepened. Not because everything was solved, but because he now knew—undeniably—that God was walking with him.
