Returning to Our First Love
Returning to Our First Love
Theme Scripture
“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works…”
— Revelation 2:4–5 (NKJV)
Exposition
Revival is a call to return. In His message to the church at Ephesus, Jesus commended their hard work, perseverance, and discernment—but He identified a critical flaw: they had forsaken their first love. They were still busy in service, but their passion for Him had faded.
This is the danger every believer faces: becoming so consumed with religious activity, responsibilities, or even ministry that we lose intimacy with Christ. Revival restores that intimacy. It rekindles the fire of devotion, worship, and love for Jesus that once burned brightly when we first believed.
Our first love is marked by joy, simplicity, and delight in God’s presence. We long to pray, we hunger for the Word, we eagerly share the gospel. But over time, distractions, routine, and spiritual battles can dim that flame.
Jesus’ solution is threefold: Remember, Repent, and Return. Remember the height from which you have fallen. Repent of coldness and misplaced priorities. Return to the first works of love, devotion, and obedience. Revival happens when we fall in love with Jesus all over again.
