The Reward of Obedience

Sincere Milk Devotional – July 10

Theme: The Reward of Obedience

Scripture

Deuteronomy 28:1–2 (NKJV)

"Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God."

Devotional

Obedience is one of the clearest expressions of our love for God. It is easy to profess faith with our lips, but genuine faith is demonstrated by a heart that willingly follows God's instructions. Throughout Scripture, God consistently blesses those who trust Him enough to obey Him, even when obedience is costly or difficult.

The blessings promised in Deuteronomy were given to Israel under the Old Covenant, yet the principle remains true: God delights in those who walk in His ways. In Christ, our salvation is a gift of grace and not something we earn through obedience (Ephesians 2:8–9). However, obedience positions us to enjoy the fullness of our relationship with God, experience His guidance, and reflect His character to the world.

Consider Abraham. God asked him to leave everything familiar and journey to an unknown land. Because Abraham obeyed, he became the father of many nations. Noah obeyed God's unusual command to build an ark when there was no sign of rain. His obedience preserved his family and fulfilled God's purpose. Mary accepted God's call despite the uncertainty it brought to her life, and through her obedience the Saviour entered the world.

Often, God's instructions may not make immediate sense. He may ask us to forgive someone who has deeply hurt us, to give generously when resources seem scarce, or to wait patiently when we want quick answers. Obedience is not about understanding every detail; it is about trusting the One who gives the command.

Delayed obedience is still disobedience, and selective obedience is incomplete obedience. God desires hearts that respond promptly and wholeheartedly. Every act of obedience, no matter how small, becomes an opportunity for God to display His faithfulness.

Today, ask yourself: Is there an area of my life where God has been speaking, but I have hesitated? The greatest blessings often lie on the other side of faithful obedience.

Reflection

  • Is there an instruction from God that I have been postponing?
  • What fear or distraction is keeping me from fully obeying Him?
  • How can I demonstrate my love for Christ through obedience today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me and leading me through Your Word. Give me a willing heart that delights in obeying You. Remove every fear, pride, and hesitation that keeps me from following Your will. Help me to trust You even when I do not understand the path ahead. May my life bring You honour through faithful obedience. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today's Declaration

I choose to obey God's Word with joy and faith. My steps are ordered by the Lord, and His blessings will follow as I walk in His will. I trust His wisdom above my own understanding, and I will faithfully serve Him all the days of my life.

Memory Verse

John 14:15 (NKJV)

"If you love Me, keep My commandments."
