📅 DAY 15 — OCTOBER 15

WALKING IN THE NEW LIFE

📖 Bible Reading: Ephesians 4:17–24

Key Verse:

“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” — Ephesians 4:23–24 (KJV)

🌅 TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

You cannot embrace the new life while holding tightly to the old ways.

One of the greatest blessings of salvation is the opportunity to live a transformed life. When we come to Christ, God does not merely invite us to change our religious affiliation; He calls us into a new way of thinking, living, and relating to others.

In Ephesians 4:17–24, the Apostle Paul urges believers not to live as they did before knowing Christ. He describes a life characterised by futile thinking, spiritual darkness, and separation from the life of God. He then contrasts this with the new life believers have learned through Jesus Christ.

Paul's message is clear: when Christ changes your identity, that new identity must begin to influence your lifestyle.

Being a Christian is more than attending church, carrying a Bible, or speaking religious language. It involves allowing the truth of Christ to reshape the way we think, the choices we make, and the attitudes we cultivate.

Consider your everyday life. How do you respond when someone offends you? What happens when you are tempted to compromise your convictions? How do you behave when nobody is watching? Do your private decisions reflect the faith you profess publicly?

These questions matter because genuine spiritual transformation reaches beyond outward appearances. It begins within and gradually becomes evident in our conduct.

Paul highlights three important movements in this transformation.

1. Put off the old self.

The old self is associated with desires and patterns of living that are contrary to God's will. These may include dishonesty, bitterness, pride, destructive habits, selfishness, and uncontrolled desires.

We cannot grow in Christ while deliberately protecting the very attitudes He calls us to surrender. There are things we must stop excusing, habits we must confront, and patterns we must leave behind.

2. Be renewed in your mind.

Transformation requires more than a decision to behave differently. We need a renewed understanding of God, ourselves, and the world around us.

When our thinking is shaped by God's truth, we begin to recognise destructive attitudes and respond to life's challenges differently. Instead of allowing anger to control us, we learn self-control. Instead of living for human approval, we seek to honour God. Instead of surrendering to hopelessness, we learn to trust His faithfulness.

Renewal is an ongoing process. It calls for daily engagement with Scripture, prayer, obedience, and openness to the Holy Spirit's work in our lives.

3. Put on the new self.

Paul does not call believers merely to abandon sinful practices; he calls them to embrace a new life characterised by righteousness and holiness.

It is not enough to stop speaking hurtfully; we must learn to speak graciously. It is not enough to abandon dishonesty; we must practise integrity. It is not enough to withdraw from bitterness; we must learn to forgive.

Christian transformation involves replacing destructive patterns with godly ones.

Dear friend, you may have struggled with certain weaknesses for years. Perhaps you have tried repeatedly to change, only to find yourself returning to familiar patterns. Do not conclude that transformation is impossible. Instead, bring your struggles honestly before God and take deliberate steps of obedience.

God's grace does not give us permission to remain unchanged. It empowers us to pursue a new way of living.

You are not called to be imprisoned by your past. In Christ, you are called to walk in the newness of life.

Today, ask yourself: What must I put off, what truth must renew my mind, and what Christlike quality must I put on?

Let your answers guide your decisions throughout the day.

🙏 PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for the new life You have made available to me through Jesus Christ. Thank You that my past does not have to determine my future and that Your grace continues to work in me.

Lord, search my heart and reveal every attitude, habit, and desire that is inconsistent with the life You have called me to live. Give me the courage to confront my weaknesses rather than excuse them.

Renew my mind through Your Word. Deliver me from destructive patterns of thought, sinful desires, and influences that draw me away from You. Teach me to think according to Your truth and respond to people and situations with wisdom and grace.

Holy Spirit, help me to put off the old self and put on the new self, created in righteousness and true holiness. Let my words, choices, relationships, and private conduct reflect the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

Where I have failed, give me grace to rise again, repent sincerely, and continue walking with You. May my life increasingly demonstrate the beauty of Your holiness.

In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

💡 TODAY'S TRUTH

Your new identity in Christ calls for a new way of living. As your mind is renewed by God's truth, your character and conduct can increasingly reflect His righteousness.

👣 TODAY'S STEP

Take five minutes today to identify:

  • One old pattern you need to put off.
  • One biblical truth that can renew your thinking.
  • One Christlike habit you will deliberately practise.

For example, if you struggle with anger, commit to pausing before responding to provocation, praying for wisdom, and choosing words that promote peace.

Do not merely desire change. Take one practical step towards it today.

My thoughts, words, attitudes, and actions will increasingly reflect Christ. I receive grace to walk faithfully in the new life God has given me. In Jesus' name. Amen!

🌙 SINCERE MILK — MIDNIGHT CRY

DAY 15: LORD, RENEW ME FROM WITHIN!

📖 Scripture Focus: Ephesians 4:22–24

“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” — Ephesians 4:23–24 (KJV)

🌌 MIDNIGHT REFLECTION

Some of the greatest battles in our lives are fought not around us, but within us.

We may pray for a change of circumstances while neglecting the attitudes that influence how we respond to those circumstances. We may ask God to change the people around us while refusing to examine our own hearts. We may desire a new season but continue carrying the habits of an old one.

Yet lasting transformation requires us to allow God to work within us.

In Ephesians 4:22–24, Paul presents a powerful picture of spiritual renewal. The believer is called to put off the old self, be renewed in the mind, and put on the new self.

This is not simply a call to improve our public image. It is a call to a deeper transformation of character.

Perhaps you have been struggling with bitterness because someone hurt you. Perhaps disappointment has made you cynical, fear has weakened your confidence, or repeated failures have caused you to doubt your ability to change.

Tonight, bring these struggles before God.

Ask Him to help you recognise the thoughts and attitudes that keep you trapped. Ask Him for the grace to forgive, the humility to repent, the courage to establish healthier patterns, and the discipline to walk in obedience.

Remember that renewing your mind does not mean pretending that painful experiences never happened. It means refusing to let those experiences become the final authority over your thoughts, attitudes, and decisions.

God's truth can guide you towards a different response.

If you have failed, you can repent and begin again. If you have been wounded, you can seek healing without allowing bitterness to rule your heart. If you have developed destructive habits, you can seek God's help while taking practical steps towards change.

Do not mistake the struggle for transformation as proof that God has abandoned you. Continue to seek Him, obey His Word, and draw upon the support of trustworthy believers when necessary.

Tonight, make this your prayer: “Lord, do not allow me to remain the same where You are calling me to grow.”

May God renew your mind, strengthen your resolve, and help you walk faithfully in the new life you have received through Christ.
