  September 23 —  Look to the Rock 📖 Scripture Reading: Isaiah 51:1–11 Key Verse: “Look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the hole of the pit from which you were dug.” — Isaiah 51:1 (NKJV) Devotional Reflection When the present looks uncertain, we often forget what God has already done. Fear has a way of making us focus so intensely on today's problems that yesterday's testimonies become distant memories. Isaiah 51 begins with a simple command: “Listen to Me.” Then God tells His people to look back—to remember where they came from and to remember Abraham and Sarah. Why? Because remembering God's faithfulness in the past strengthens our confidence in His faithfulness in the future. God reminds them that Abraham was only one man when He called him, yet God multiplied him and made him a nation. The message is clear: Do not judge what God can do by what you currently see. Who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely upon his God.” — Isaiah 50:10 (NKJV) Devotional Reflection Faith is easy to talk about when everything is clear. It is easier to praise God when the prayer has been answered, the door has opened, the money has arrived, the diagnosis has changed, and the future looks bright. But what happens when you are walking in darkness? Isaiah 50 speaks directly to those moments. The passage describes the Servant of the Lord as One who listens to God and faithfully obeys His calling, even when obedience brings suffering and rejection. Isaiah gives us one of the most beautiful names of God: “Your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.” A redeemer is one who rescues, restores, and acts to recover what has been lost. God does not merely identify Himself as the Redeemer . He says, “Your Redeemer.” This is personal. The God who rules over the nations is also the God who cares about you personally. He is holy, yet He draws near. He is sovereign, yet He listens. He is mighty, yet He cares for the broken. He is exalted, yet He leads His people by the hand. Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.” — Isaiah 49:15 (NKJV) Devotional Reflection One of the deepest pains a person can experience is the feeling of being forgotten. You can be surrounded by people and still feel alone. You can pray for a long time and wonder whether heaven has heard you. You can remain faithful and wonder whether God still remembers your situation. Israel experienced this kind of discouragement. Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me.” But God's response was unmistakable: “I will not forget you.” What a powerful promise. We may look at what we have accomplished—or what we have not accomplished—and ask, “What is God doing with my life?” Isaiah 49 introduces us to the Servant of the Lord and reminds us of a profound truth: God knows, calls, equips, and sends His servants for His purposes. The Servant speaks of being called from the womb. His life is not an accident. His calling is rooted in God's purpose. This does not mean that the Servant's journey is easy. Human beings often imagine that faith means being strong enough to carry everything ourselves. We try to carry our responsibilities, our families, our dreams, our disappointments, and our uncertainties. Sometimes we even feel guilty when we become tired. But God speaks differently. We want direction, but sometimes we have already decided where we want to go. We ask God to bless our plans rather than allowing Him to shape our plans. Isaiah 48 presents a God who not only knows His people but also teaches them and leads them . God says, “I am the Lord your God.” Before He speaks about direction, He reminds them of relationship. He is not a distant guide giving instructions from far away. He is their God. This is important because God's guidance flows from His character and His love.
