We can work harder when we know what we are trying to accomplish. But waiting requires something different: trust . Isaiah speaks to people who were discouraged and beginning to wonder whether God had forgotten them. They looked at their circumstances and asked, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my just claim is passed over by my God.” Have you ever felt that way? You pray, but the answer seems delayed. You work, but progress seems slow. You believe, but circumstances do not seem to change. You wonder whether God sees what you are going through. I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.” — Isaiah 46:4 (NKJV) Devotional Reflection There are times when we become tired of carrying everything. We carry responsibilities. We carry expectations. We carry family concerns, financial pressures, unanswered prayers, personal disappointments, and worries about tomorrow. Sometimes we become so accustomed to carrying things that we forget an important truth: God never intended us to carry everything alone. Isaiah 46 presents a beautiful contrast. The idols of Babylon had to be carried by people. They could not move themselves. They could not rescue their worshippers. They were burdens rather than helpers. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) Devotional Reflection Fear can make us feel alone. When uncertainty surrounds us, our minds begin to imagine everything that could go wrong. We may wonder how we will cope, where help will come from, or whether we have enough strength to face what lies ahead. But Isaiah 41 gives us one of God's most reassuring promises: “Fear not, for I am with you.” God does not tell His people not to fear because their circumstances are insignificant. He tells them not to fear because He is greater than their circumstances . Notice the promises God makes: “I am with you.” You are not alone. “I am your God.” You belong to Him. “I will strengthen you.” Your weakness does not disqualify you. “I will help you.” You don...

  September 8 — Joy in the Wells of Salvation 📖 Scripture Reading: Isaiah 12:1–6 Key Verse: “Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” — Isaiah 12:3 (NKJV) Devotional Reflection There is a kind of joy that circumstances cannot manufacture and circumstances cannot easily take away. Isaiah 12 is a beautiful song of praise that follows God's promises of salvation and restoration. The prophet looks beyond fear and judgment and declares that God's people will one day respond with thanksgiving and confidence. He says: “O Lord, I will praise You.” Notice that the foundation of his joy is not that everything around him is perfect. His joy is rooted in who God is and what God has done . Then Isaiah gives us a beautiful picture: “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” Water represents life, refreshment, and satisfaction.   September 7 — The Branch That Will Bear Fruit 📖 Scripture Reading: Isaiah 11:1–10 Key Verse: “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.” — Isaiah 11:1 (NKJV) Devotional Reflection Sometimes a situation can look completely finished. A tree may be cut down until all that remains appears to be a lifeless stump. From human observation, there seems to be no reason to expect anything more from it. Yet Isaiah gives us a picture of hope: “There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.” The stump is not the end. God can bring life out of what appears dead. Isaiah's prophecy points forward to the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. Though the royal line of David seemed vulnerable and Israel's circumstances were difficult, God's promise had not failed.   September 6 — When God Is Your Refuge 📖 Scripture Reading: Isaiah 10:20–27 Key Verse: “And it shall come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel… will lean on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.” — Isaiah 10:20 (NKJV) Devotional Reflection There is a difference between knowing about God and leaning on God . Isaiah speaks of a remnant of God's people who would no longer depend on the nations around them or on their own strength. Instead, they would “lean on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.” To lean means to place your weight on something because you trust that it will hold you. Think about what happens when you are physically tired. You look for something strong enough to support you. You don't lean against something because you think it might collapse. You lean because you believe it will hold your weight. God invites us to do the same with Him. There are seasons when our own strength is simply not enough. There are seasons when life feels uncertain, when prayers seem unanswered, when circumstances become overwhelming, and when the future appears hidden from our view. Yet Isaiah gives us a beautiful message of hope: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” Isaiah was speaking to people who knew hardship, fear, oppression, and uncertainty.
