What we initially perceive as an unexpected development may be part of a purpose far greater than we can imagine. In Ephesians 3, Paul introduces us to what he calls the mystery of Christ. In the New Testament, a mystery is not simply something impossible to understand. It is a divine purpose that was once hidden but has now been revealed by God. What was this mystery? Paul explains that the Gentiles—those outside the covenant community of Israel—are now, through the gospel, fellow heirs, members of the same body, and sharers in God's promise in Christ. We want to know that we are accepted, that our presence matters, and that we have a place where we are welcomed and valued. Yet many people go through life feeling like outsiders—unnoticed in a crowd, forgotten in a community, or uncertain about where they truly belong. Paul's message to the Ephesian believers offers a beautiful answer to this longing. In Christ, we are no longer strangers. We belong to God's household. In the preceding verses, Paul explains how Christ has broken down the wall separating Jews and Gentiles. Now he describes the new reality created by that reconciliation.   SINCERE MILK October Series: Rooted in Christ Day 8 — Christ Our Peace 📖 Ephesians 2:11–18 “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation.” — Ephesians 2:14 REFLECTION Human beings have always had a tendency to build walls. Some walls are made of bricks. Others are made of prejudice, suspicion, history, culture, ethnicity, religion, social status, resentment, or fear. Paul speaks to believers who understood what separation meant. Jews and Gentiles had lived with deep religious and cultural divisions. There were barriers that seemed almost impossible to overcome. But Paul declares something extraordinary: “He Himself is our peace.” Notice that Paul does not merely say that Christ gives peace. He says Christ is our peace. Peace is not simply an atmosphere. Peace is not merely the absence of conflict. Peace is found in a Person. Jesus came to break down the wall of separation and create “one new humanity.” ...

Yesterday, Paul described humanity's condition apart from Christ. We were dead in trespasses and sins, walking according to the patterns of the world. Then comes the turning point: “But God…” God did not leave us where sin found us. Why? Paul gives us three profound answers: Because He is rich in mercy. Because He has great love. Because He is rich in grace. God's response to our brokenness was not abandonment but mercy. Paul says that God “made us alive together with Christ.” Notice that this is not something we achieved. We did not rescue ourselves. We did not become good enough for God to accept us. We were made alive with Christ . Then Paul gives us one of the most quoted statements in the New Testament: “Fo...

  SINCERE MILK October Series: Rooted in Christ Day 6 — From Death to Life 📖 Ephesians 2:1–3 “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins.” — Ephesians 2:1 REFLECTION Sometimes we cannot fully appreciate what Christ has done for us until we understand what we were rescued from. Paul does not soften his description of our former condition. He says we were “dead in trespasses and sins.” Dead. Not merely weak. Not merely confused. Not simply in need of improvement. Spiritually dead and separated from the life of God. Sin is more serious than making occasional mistakes. It affects the direction of the human heart and separates us from the God who created us. Paul says that we once “walked according to the course of this world.” We were influenced by values and desires that stood against God's will. But notice something important: Paul speaks about the past. “You were dead…” That was your former condition. For those who are in Christ, death is no lo...

His response was not merely to congratulate them—it was to pray for them . And what does he pray? That God would give them greater knowledge. This is important because Christianity is not simply about having faith; it is also about growing in our understanding of what we have believed . Paul prays that “the eyes of your understanding” would be enlightened. There are things the natural eye cannot see. You can look at a difficult situation and see only a problem. But spiritual understanding can see an opportunity for God. You can look at yourself and see weakness. But God can help you see the hope of His calling,. You can look at the church and see ord...

SINCERE MILK October Series: Rooted in Christ — Sealed by the Spirit 📖 Ephesians 1:11–14 “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance… who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession.” — Ephesians 1:11, 14 REFLECTION One of the greatest fears in life is uncertainty. Will things work out? Will God's promises really come to pass? Will I remain faithful? What does the future hold? Paul gives believers a powerful answer: God has not left us without assurance. In Christ, we have received an inheritance. But God has also given us something that assures us of what is still to come—the Holy Spirit . Paul says that when we believed, we were “sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.” A seal represents ownership, authenticity, and security. The Holy Spirit is God's mark upon those who belong to Him.
